  • GDT Pond Scum (70-71) vs. Red Birds (90-52)

    Pitching matchup
    NYM: RHP Steve Trachsel
    • 1-1, 2.35 ERA in 2005
    • 0-0, 0.00 ERA vs. STL in 2004

    STL: RHP Jeff Suppan
    • 13-10, 3.76 ERA in 2005
    • 0-0, 0.00 ERA vs. NYM in 2004

    Player to watch
The Cards' two best hitters against Trachsel, Larry Walker and Mark Grudzielanek, are expected to be unavailable. So how about a guy you can never go wrong with: Albert Pujols. The MVP candidate has faced Trachsel 11 times, and Trachsel has gotten him out four times (three singles, four walks, four outs).

    Quotable
"I hope he can play [Saturday]. It's a good matchup whenever he plays." -- Cardinals manager Tony La Russa on Walker

    Quick hits
David Eckstein has a 14-game hitting streak. ... Suppan was 62-75 before coming to St. Louis, and 29-19 since joining the Cardinals. ... Suppan has four RBIs this year -- as many as he had, total, in his career before 2005. ... Walker's home run on Friday night gave him 381, tied with Albert Belle for 52nd on the all-time list.

Magic # is down to 8....lets make it 7 or 6 tonight!

This game is going to be nine hours long.
The noise was good, but I thought they phoned in a lot of the funk.

Yes it will be a long one. My son's little league game is at 6:00 and he said he hoped we got back in time before the Cardinals game was over. I bet it's only in the 3rd inning by 8:00.
