  • Bernie chooses morning drive on 1380

Post subject: Radio Decision: 1380 AM
    Deal was finalized today.

I'll be doing a weekday morning show, 8-11 a.m. starting the first Monday in October.

It'll be hardcore sports -- news, issues, insider information.

Andy Strickland is joining me as the in-studio partner, and he will produce the show and be the station's overall reporter / newshound.

We have other plans to round the show out -- but you'll be hearing a lot from well-connected people who know what's going on in St. Louis sports. And we'll use the ESPN stable of talent as well.

My decision was not anti-KFNS. The guys who run that place are doing a good job, and they were very classy to deal with. And doing a show with Kevin Slaten appealed to me.

But I like the idea of creating my own show, and I much prefer a morning time slot. Makes it much easier for me personally and professionally. I need (and want to be) at Rams Park or Busch Stadium in the late afternoon and/or evenings.

And as I told my friends at KFNS, I am responsible for picking up my daughter from school every day, and it gives us a chance to spend time together and have the kind of conversations that a father and daughter need to have. If I had done an afternoon-drive show at KFNS, it would have prevented us from sharing those important moments and conversations. Meredith told me to do what was best for my radio career, but she said given a choice, she still wants her dad to pick her up after school. (I'm relieved she still feels that way! )

And by doing a morning show, I also enjoy getting the first crack at the issues of the day for a change.

I hope those of you who liked the KMOX show will give us a try.

I want to take the best of KMOX -- news, reporting, info, trust, credibility -- and expand on it at 1380.

Thanks to all of you who have been asking me about this. I appreciate your interest.

    Cheers,
    B

    This is a good thing.

Bernie is best to stay away from Slaten.

It would only bring him down.

And I'm still waiting for Claiborne and Slaten to come to blows.

    It's not that unlikely.

But at least for now, the possibility remains.

that sucks. if 1380 could reach farther than it's own front desk, i wouldn't mind so much. it doesn't come in at all.

          Yeah, that's a weird "vacation."

Who comes back from a vacation on a Friday?

Some of you online listener guys should take a taste of KTCK in Dallas...

            Link

Especially "The Hardline" during the 3-7pm time slot...

That station is what I see McKernan's show trying to become...

Except they're like that all day...but the shows are great, IMO...

            It's not just Dallas stuff...

And in fact...some of them are completely anti-Dallas...especially when it comes to the Cowboys...which is pretty comical...

This is from Dan Caesar yesterday...

Also in the sports-radio business, Mike Claiborne might be out or reassigned at KFNS. He has been working with Kevin Slaten on the afternoon drive-time program. But he isn't expected to end up at KSLG.

We'll never hear from Bernwhale again. Thank God. And he made the move to ban himself. Super. Have fun picking up and talking to your daughter, 'cause thats the only person who will be able to hear you. You footnote in STL sports is noted. Next.
