  • FEDS WANT NO PHOTOS OF DEAD...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When U.S. officials asked the media not to take pictures of those killed by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, they were censoring a key part of the disaster story, free speech watchdogs said on Wednesday.

The move by the Federal Emergency Management Agency is in line with the Bush administration's ban on images of flag-draped U.S. military coffins returning from the Iraq war, media monitors said in separate telephone interviews.

"It's impossible for me to imagine how you report a story whose subject is death without allowing the public to see images of the subject of the story," said Larry Siems of the PEN American Center, an authors' group that defends free expression.
Hide it from teh people, don't tell them people are dying, don't let them see the bodies, maybe they wont notice.

I can't see how they can enforce this.

But they don't enforce people to not take pictures of tits and ass during Mardi Gras and other times.

so did they stop them from taking pictures, or just tell them that there is no room in the rescue boats because of food, water, supplies and people?

Good taste says the media shouldn't show dead bodies.

"Good taste" and "media" in the same sentence...what was I thinking?

I clicked on your post thinking there would be pictures of dead, bloated, naked bodies.
But wait. There is something that can be done afterall. My good friend Angelo is a cop in the Tampa/Clearwater area. Since I kept all of the files from the access logs when I had the power to see them, guess what, I have everyone's IP addresses. Hmm..what can I do w/ those??

This thread is useless without pics.

Personally, I don't see what the need would be to show dead bodies from Katrina.

                  Maybe that's just me, though.

                      Not particularly, no.
