  • One War and One Huge Rebuiding Effort

    Discuss -

    I have stated I didn't think a 4 year presence was too long for the war and in the light of recent activities I stand by my statements.

    We need to get out of Iraq as soon as possible - no easy way to leave either - but we need to go.

    Let's get out of Iraq within 12 months.

    Won't happen though. We will still be there when Bush leaves office in Jan 2009

      I mentioned it in another thread, but the city of Houston and the state of Texas will also need Federal funds to offset the huge numbers of storm victims who've been relocated to that area.

        Bush may need to make two unpopular moves;

        1. Institute a draft - if he intends to remain in Iraq for as long as I think he will want to
        2. Raise taxes - money for war and rebuilding has to come from somewhere and our allies are likely to start getting nervous about continuing to lend us such massive amounts of money

          TTB,

          Aren't we still in Germany and Japan?
          And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

              Yes. I believe we are.

              IMHO...we should leave there too. I'm tired of supporting the rest of the 'free' world.

                We are not "supporting" Germany and Japan. We leave our troops there b/c we've decided that strategically there is a good place for them to be. The Germans and Japanese wouldn't mind if we left, probably; I know the citizens of Okinawa would be thrilled if we left.

                Re: the war and the rebuilding--if it comes down to a choice between rebuilding N.O. and remaining in Iraq, the bodies will be left to rot, one thinks.

                  I don't necessarily disagree, but the wrong question was asked.

                  I'll try:

                  Are we still in Vietnam?
