This is an email I got tonight from the STL Mardi Gras folks. This is the first of many different things going on in the city to try and help out. Sorry for starting a new thread, but I probably should have put this in one of the Mardi Gras threads instead...I'll be sending this to "my people" thru the AGC tomorrow, I'm sure some of us will go. If anyone is interested in going, please let me know, I'll bring you in with the Krewe I'm with.
(if the mods feel they need to move this - that's fine)
Hurricane Katrina Relief Benefit
Over the last two days we have taken several calls from concerned people wanting to know what we could do to help those who have been displaced in New Orleans. Thinking through the situation we have decided to prevail upon our strengths and throw a party to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
One of the focal points of this benefit will be a unique silent auction. This silent auction will rely on our generous Krewes to make it a success and make a real difference in helping those affected. We are simply asking that you come together as Krewes and donate 2 spots on each of your 2006 Mardi Gras floats to benefit the auction. All proceeds will benefit the American Red Cross and the Americorps teams of first responders on the scene now helping victims to sort out their lives and the mess that was left in the wake of Katrina. This is our chance as the 2nd biggest Mardi Gras in the United States to help those who have been the pioneers of the Carnival season.
The benefit event is going to take place on Sunday, September 11 from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Casa Loma Ballroom which is located at the corner of Iowa and Cherokee. Many of our sponsors and event partners have graciously come forward to donate entertainment, food, beverages, printing, advertising, and media. The cost of the event will be $20 per ticket and all proceeds will benefit the St. Louis Chapter of the American Red Cross and the AmeriCorps St. Louis Emergency Response Teams who are assisting in the disaster zone.
Please reply to Alicia at [email protected] or by phone at 771-5110. We ask that you let us know as soon as possible and please help us to help all of those who lives have been affected by this tragedy.
Sincerely,
Tim Lorson
