  • This is the way to start the weekend

So as I've mentioned a couple times, after a bit of a dry spell work-wise, I finally got myself a 3-month contract as an independant consultant, working with some people in Boston on a project for a compnay in Milwaukee. Even tried to meet Lippa while I was in Boston training, but it didn't take (I probably creeped him out... ). The contract has been a lot of fun, and it runs out next Friday.

Apparantly, I did a good job. My 3-month contract just turned into a job offer for a permanent position. I will have to give up some of the money I would make staying independant, but it's worth it not to have to deal with all the crap of work orders and what not. And although I made more as a sales engineer in my last job, this will be the highest base salary I've ever had in my life.

And to think, earlier this week, I was saying I'm doing what I want to be doing in my life. And I'm very close to drawing a regular, yearly salary for doing so.

    Life is good.....

    congrats man.
You're being fucking dramatic. You own a TV and an air mattress. That's not exactly what I'd call "a lot to lose."

        Thanks!

If I were in St. Louis this weekend, I'd be buying beers for ya'll at Trailhead.

I'll have to settle for doing so at the Bears game tonight. I'll keep the Trailhead thing in mind for next time I'm down, tho. Free booze does seem to attract people....

Oh no - staying in Chicago. Moving eventually, but just to another place in Chicago.

Hope you keep the job long enough before they export it to [insert obligatory foreign country]!

Since my boss is there, I gotta think I'll be out there more than a few times. They did move up the road to Middleton, which IIRC, is even further out in the boonies, but still. It's a paying gig.

In this case, I'm not actually worried about it. The actual programming work is spread out among the US and India. I'm the guy who has to take the stuff, and actually get it to work - which involves quite a bit of coding in and of itself, and since every customer they install the sotware for has different data/requirements/etc, that's a lot of work.

So I should be set for awhile....
