  • Is it time to insert Reyes into the rotation?

IMO, it's time to put Marquis in the BP for long relief. In fact, I may consider bring him up before 9-1, to ensure him a spot in post season.

Sounds about right, if Marquis hasn't earned a demotion than nobody ever has.
    Time for change

Agreed on after 9/1. So I will hopefully get to see him deal in Memphis next week. (B)

Dear God, KBF here. I'd just like to say thanks, once again, for allowing Dusty Baker and I to live during the same time period. Every time I think he's given me his last gift -- overpitching Prior in the playoffs, getting cocky in Game 6 vs. the Angels, blowing another game for the Cubs -- he does something stupid like pitching to Albert Pujols. Thy will be done, baby!!!!!

Tony's big thing is whoever has the best chance to help the team plays. Right now, that isn't Marquis.

Look at Zach Duke. You might catch lightning in a bottle. I say get him up here, you never know.

It's gotten to the point that you just assume a loss when Marquis starts.

                  can we just release Marquis?

this guy is really, really bad.

I honestly don't know what has happened to Marquis. Has his sinker just stopped sinking? If so, why? Is it a confidence problem? He was really sharp earlier in the season. If he could get back to that form -- then I would definitely want him in the post season. But the way he is pitching now, I wouldn't even want him in the bullpen.

Doubt that'll happen. They need to get down to 11 pitchers by next week anyway.

Reyes SHOULD get most of Marquis' starts in September, though.

He's done as a Cardinal. No way he's back next year. He shit the bed once too often.

What's weird is if you look at his #s other than W-L, he isn't that far off from last year.

                        2004 201.1 IP, 215 H, 26 HR, 70 BB, 138 K, 3.71 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, .275 BAA
                        2005 160.0 IP, 167 H, 21 HR, 65 BB, 74 K, 4.67 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, .273 BAA

Basically, he's not striking anyone out this year, unlike last year, when his K/BB ratio was almost 2/1, and his ERA has jumped markedly. Everything else is comparable and/or better.

In short, the signs of this were there last year. Which is why I wanted to trade him during the offseason.

Yep, they'll figure out a way to trade him this off-season. I just hope other team's scouts haven't been paying too much attention over the last couple of months.
