Stephen Cannella article on CNNSI. Builds a potential roster for every team consisting only of players they drafted and signed.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...ters/index.html

    Here is the Cardinal roster:

    Cardinals
    1B: Albert Pujols
    2B: Adam Kennedy
    3B: Placido Polanco
    SS: Jack Wilson
    C: ???
    LF: Dmitri Young
    CF: Coco Crisp
    RF: J.D. Drew, Brian Jordan
SP: Matt Morris, Danny Haren, Jeff Fassero
RP: Braden Looper, Jay Witasick, Cliff Politte, Rheal Cormier
He omits Yadier Molina. Otherwise, with the exception of sucky Jack Wilson, that's a pretty good team.

I had no idea Jeff Fassero was a Cardinal draft pick.

Sweet merciful crap. Johan Santana not even drafted, but signed by the Astros as a minor-league free agent. He was lost by the Astros to Florida in the Rule V draft. And then traded to Minnesota for some dude named "Jared Camp".

I thought John Buck came from Kansas City in the Beltran trade.

**Edit: Maybe he was the guy that Houston refused to trade in that deal and thus why they had to include Oakland...

That was pretty interesting to look at. I think the Mariners would have had probably the best lineup in baseball.

              Suzuki
              Vizquel
              Griffey Jr
              Rodriguez
              Ortiz
              Varitek
              Cruz Jr
              Vazquez
              Martinez

But all of these players peaked at different times.
