  • Rafael Furcal

Out of the blue question based on nothing, but do you think the Cardinals would really consider moving Eckstein to 2b and signing free agent eligible Rafael Furcal?
    In Construction

    (the move messed it up)

It all depends on what Grudzielanek's demands are...if he asks for high dollar, they could consider the option now that the Cardinals/Cardinal's are a 'major market' team in a 'mid-level' demographic....

I have a sneaking suspicion that something similar to this was the plan going into this season.

Nothing to really back that up, though.

Where's the furcal talk coming from?

I'd love to have him on the team....but can they really afford a player like that when they'll need to sign one pitcher and two corner outfielders?

I have read that they will have close to a hundred million dollar payroll next season...

Yeah, might not want him in the same city as Leonard Little.

I wonder what "benefits" means. Per diem? Playoff bonuses? And if, when they talk about raising payroll, which number they're talking about. Fewer things are more arcane than MLB team payrolls.

I thought this should be the plan from the start. A year of Eck at SS then get a better player and move him to 2B. Furcal would thrive here.
