  • Upcoming Pitching Matchups

    San Francisco:
Friday - Carpenter v Brad Hennesey
Saturday - Morris v Kevin Correia
Sunday - Suppan v Jason Schmidt

    Pittsburgh:
Monday - Mulder v Josh Fogg
    Tuesday - Marquis v Zach Duke (L)
Wednesday - Carpenter v Kip Wells
    Thursday - Morris v Dave Williams (L)

Washington (very tentative - see note):
Friday - Suppan v John Patterson
Saturday - Mulder v Livan Hernandez
Sunday - Marquis v Esteban Loaiza

NOTES: Next Tuesday we get our first look at Zach Duke. He's currently 5-0, 2.13 and (with LF Jason Bay) is one of the hopes for the future in Pittsburgh.

The Nationals had a rainout on Tuesday that might alter the rotation for our series against them. Ryan Drese was supposed to start the rained-out game. He will now pitch the second game of tonight's double-header. This will mean that come Sunday afternoon, all five of their starters will have pitched over the last four days. They then have an off-day on Monday. So, they could start Loaiza, Sunday, on just three days rest, and then pick up with Armas on Tuesday. If that happens, we miss Patterson and get Hernandez, Loaiza and Armas.

If they don't start Loaiza on three-days' rest (ie if the bring someone up for the Sunday start, or make it a bullpen game), then the Monday off-day turns it into a mini-vacation and means that both Patterson and Hernandez will pitch on 6-days of rest. If they decide that's too much, they may opt to skip Drese in the rotation and give his Thursday start to Patterson. That would also result in our getting Hernandez, Loaiza and Armas.

I'll be at the Saturday and Sunday games with the Nationals. Not quite the pitching matchups I wanted to see.

If it stays Mulder v Hernandez, that should be worth seeing.
