  • Thoughts on the Birds at the three quarter poll

42 games left for the team with the best record in baseball.

Hell, we all knew we had a royal flush going in - no surprise there. The fact that half a triple AAA line up has carried the ball for almost hald a season is - and they deserve congratulations. If all the regulars get back healthy by September another 105 is not out of the question. So I think the Cardinals have lived up to all the preseason hype so far and if anything exceeded it.

12 up with 42 left in the Central we must begin the push to get right for the playoffs. It really doesn't matter who we play - because they don't give world titles away - we must expect 3 tough rounds to win the goal. The holes to fill are

Left Handed specialist - Ray King um er um er needs to start stopping people in key situations not after he has let the tying or winning run in.

Outfield - An object in motion will stay in motion. Guys who are out you must assume will still be out unless we see otherwise. Right now - Reggie and Larry are both needed at 100% becaue you don't know when Scotty will play. Hopefully their won't be any complications and they can play 80 % of September resting only as a precaution. Then play 90% in October and the WS. The depth is excellent with So - JRod - Nunez - Mabry - even Luna.

Third base - In Nunez/Mabry were to slump defensively we would be in trouble. Offensively - as long as everyone else get's healthy we could cover and if Nunez keeps hitting well - its all good.

Albert Pujols - Is there anyway we can get him some extra rest just to be on the safe side. The Iron Horse loves the sound of the bell - but I wouldn't be upset if he got a day off after every 6 games. Same for the Jimmy ballgame.

Coaching - Tightness in the playoffs often comes down to facing superior talent. Against the Astros we were loose when we had to be. Against the Sox - we werent. I don't care who we play - we need to let our abilities show. Please pass the ex-lax around Tony if you see any signs.

still wouldn't mind seeing a waiver deal for a better lefty reliever and another good OF stick

I disagree that Luna contributes to our depth...we just don't have anyone else. I also think the pitchers have figured out 'Johnny Load'.

I think TLR needs the ex-lax. He out-figures himself every time.

I don't know why we're even having this discussion, ESPN has anointed the Sawx as World Champion!

Those guys in Bristol don't know anything -

So who will start games 2 - 3 - and 4 for the World Champs?

              3/4 pole?

According to the front page poll, we're only 1/4 of the way through the season. I'm confused.

              Which is it?
