          Velvet Underground...

Could have done w/out Nico...but, still an excellent band...
          Here's the defining album...and song...

          I'm Waiting For The Man

          I'm waiting for my man
          Twenty-six dollars in my hand
          Up to Lexington, 125
Feel sick and dirty, more dead than alive
          I'm waiting for my man
Hey, white boy, what you doin' uptown?
Hey, white boy, you chasin' our women around?
Oh pardon me sir, it's the furthest from my mind
I'm just lookin' for a dear, dear friend of mine
          I'm waiting for my man
Here he comes, he's all dressed in black
Beat up shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
First thing you learn is you always gotta wait I'm waiting for my man
Up to a Brownstone, up three flights of stairs
Everybody's pinned you, but nobody cares
He's got the works, gives you sweet taste
Ah then you gotta split because you got no time to waste
          I'm waiting for my man
Baby don't you holler, darlin' don't you bawl and shout
I'm feeling good, you know I'm gonna work it on out
I'm feeling good, I'm feeling oh so fine
Until tomorrow, but that's just some other time
          I'm waiting for my man

            Great fucking song, Wang.

What a great band.... so many bands were influenced by the VU... most recently, Cake. Well, at lest by Lou Reed, anyway.

My favourite Lou Reed song of all-time...

This was for the longest time my favourite song...it has so many meanings...every time you figure it out..it changes..

              Still one of my faves...

              Wild Child Lyrics
              Artist(Band):Lou Reed
              (Print the Lyrics)
              Wild Child Lyrics

I was talkin' to Chuck in his Genghis Khan suit
              and his wizard's hat
He spoke of his movie and how he was makin'
              a new sound track

And then we spoke of kids on the coast
and different types of organic soap
And the way suicides don't leave notes
              Then we spoke of Lorraine
              always back to Lorraine

I was speakin' to Phil who was given to pills
              and small racing cars
He had given them up since his last crack-up
              had carried him too far

Then we spoke of the movies and verse
and the way an actress held her purse
And the way life at times can get worse
              Then we spoke of Lorraine
              always back to Lorraine

              Ah, she's a wild child
and nobody can get at her
              She's a wild child
oh, and nobody can get to her

              Sleepin' out on the street
              Oh, livin' all alone
without a house or a home
and then she asked you, please
hey, baby, can I have some spare change
Oh, can I break your heart?

              She's a wild child, she's a wild child

I was talkin' to Betty about her auditions
              how they made her ill
But life is the theater, is certainly fraught
              with many spills and chills

But she'd come down after some wine
which is what happens most of the time
Then we sat and both spoke in rhymes
              Till we spoke of Lorraine
              ah, always back to Lorraine

I was talking to Ed who'd been reported dead
              by mutual friends
He thought it was funny that I had no money
              to spend on him

So we both shared a piece of sweet cheese
and sang of our lives and our dreams
And how things can come apart at the seams
              And we talk of Lorraine
              always back to Lorraine

              She's a wild child
oh, and nobody can get at her
              She's a wild child
oh, and nobody can get to her

              Sleepin' out on the street
              Oh, livin' all alone
without a house or a home
and then she asked you, please,
oh, baby, can I have some spare change
Now can I break your heart?"

              She's a wild child, she's a wild child

I'm still a big fan of the album Transformer - my favorite song in Transformer is Hangin' Round...

Harry was a rich young man who would become a priest
He dug up his dear father who was recently deceased
He did it with tarot cards and a mystically attuned mind
And shortly there and after he did find

Jeanny was a spoiled young brat, she thought she knew it all
She smoked mentholated cigarettes and she had sex in the hall
But she was not my kind or even of my sigh
The kind of animal that I would be about

Oh oh oh, you keep hangin' 'round me
And I'm not so glad you found me
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago
Oh oh oh, you keep hangin' 'round me
And I'm not so glad you found me
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago
                Hangin' 'round, hangin' 'round

Cathy was a bit surreal, she painted all her toes
And on her face she wore dentures clamped tightly to her nose
And when she finally spoke her twang her glasses broke
And no one else could smoke while she was in the room

Hark the herald angels sang and reached out for a phone
And plucking it with ivory hand dialed long distance home
But it was all too much sprinkling angel dust to A.T. and T.
                Who didn't wish you well

Oh oh oh, you keep hangin' 'round me
And I'm not so glad you found me
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago
Oh oh oh, you keep hangin' 'round me
And I'm not so glad you found me
You're still doing things that I gave up years ago
                Hangin' 'round, hangin' 'round

                  one of my favs
                  Sweet Jane Lyrics
                  (reed)

                  Standing on the corner,
                  Suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset, and jane is her vest,
And me I’m in a rock’n’roll band hah!
Ridin’ in a stutz bear cat, jim
You know, those were different times!
Oh, all the poets they studied rules of verse
And those ladies, they rolled their eyes

Sweet jane! whoa! sweet jane, oh-oh-a! sweet jane!

                  I’ll tell you something
                  Jack, he is a banker
And jane, she is a clerk
Both of them save their monies, ha
And when, when they come home from work
Oh, sittin’ down by the fire, oh!
                  The radio does play
                  The classical music there, jim
"the march of the wooden soldiers"
                  All you protest kids
You can hear jack say, get ready, ah

Sweet jane! come on baby! sweet jane! oh-oh-a! sweet jane!

Some people, they like to go out dancing
And other peoples, they have to work, just watch me now!
And there’s even some evil mothers
Well they’re gonna tell you that everything is just dirt
Y’know that, women, never really faint
And that villains always blink their eyes, woo!
And that, y’know, children are the only ones who blush!
And that, life is just to die!
And, everyone who ever had a heart
They wouldn’t turn around and break it
And anyone who ever played a part
Oh wouldn’t turn around and hate it!

Sweet jane! whoa-oh-oh! sweet jane! sweet jane!

                  Heavenly wine and roses
Seems to whisper to her when he smiles
                  Heavenly wine and roses
Seems to whisper to her when she smiles
La lala lala la, la lala lala la
                  Sweet jane
                  Sweet jane

They were wild like the USA
A mystery band in a New York way
Rock and roll, but not like the rest
And to me, America at it's best
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.

A spooky tone on a Fender bass
Played less notes and left more space
Stayed kind of still, looked kinda shy
                      Kinda far away, kinda dignified.
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.

Now you can look at that band and wonder where
All that sound was coming from
                      With just 4 people there.

Twangy sounds of the cheapest types,
Sounds as stark as black and white stripes,
Bold and brash, sharp and rude,
                      Like the heats turned off
                      And you're low on food.
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.
                      Like this...

                      Duck and sally inside
They’re cookin’ for the down five
                      Who’re starin’ at miss rayon
Who’s busy licking up her pig-pen
                      I’m searching for my mainline
                      I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
                      I said I couldn’t hit it sideways
                      Just like sister ray said

Wild wild parties when they start to unwind
A close encounter of the thirdest kind
On the bandstand playing, everybody's saying
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.

Well you could look at that band
                      And at first sight
Say that certain rules about modern music
                      Wouldn't apply tonight.

Twangy sounds of the cheapest kind,
                      Like "Guitar sale $29.99,"
Bold and brash, stark and still,
                      Like the heats turned off
And you can't pay the bill.
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.

Both guitars got the fuzz tone on
The drummer's standing upright pounding along
                      A howl, a tone, a feedback whine
Biker boys meet the college kind
How in the world were they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.

Wild wild parties when they start to unwind
A close encounter of the thirdest kind
On the bandstand grooving, everybody moving
How in the world are they making that sound?
                      Velvet Underground.
