    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    CARDINALS ISSUE SECURITY PROCEDURES FOR 2004;
    Fans Encouraged to Arrive Early

    ST. LOUIS, March 31, 2004 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today the security procedures for the new season. For a complete listing of the security procedures at Busch Stadium, media and fans may visit the Cardinals website at HYPERLINK "http://www.stlcardinals.com" www.stlcardinals.com.
    The Cardinals are also urging all fans to plan ahead for some of the changes that are in place this season due to the construction of the new ballpark, including alternate routes into and out of downtown St. Louis. Fans should be sure to allow more time in coming to Busch Stadium and the team encourages fans to use Metrolink and consider many of the parking options North of the stadium. Many of the changes can be found at HYPERLINK "http://www.stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com" www.stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com on a map detailing streets, parking lots and sidewalks that have been affected by construction.
    Disabled access to the stadium has been set up with a drop-off location on Walnut Street between Gates 6 and 7 on the North side of the stadium. Disabled parking is also available in the stadium garages and in the garages near Kiener Plaza.
    Similar to last season, no bags exceeding the maximum size of 16 x 16 x 8 inches will be allowed per Major League Baseball in conjunction with a league-wide policy. This season the Cardinals have set up bag inspection points at all gates entering the stadium and all bags will be inspected before they are permitted into the ballpark. One policy change this year is that no hard plastic cup/mugs, coolers or thermoses will be allowed into Busch Stadium nor is the team allowing guns or weapons of any kind. The following items are also prohibited: alcohol, glass bottles, cans, laser pointers, nets, air horns and other loud noisemakers, weapons/fireworks. If any of the preceding items are discovered at the gates, event staff will ask fans to return the items to their vehicle. Prohibited items will not be stored at the gates or guest services. Non-alcoholic beverages including water and soda in open cups or in clear plastic bottles no larger than two liters is allowed.
    Busch Stadium opens one hour prior to game time with Gates 4, 7 and 8 open two hours prior to the start of the game for guests wanting to observe batting practice. Guests may watch batting practice from the Field Box seats on Level 2 and the Bleachers on Level 3 between Gate 2 and Gate 7. Starting one hour prior to game time, only field box ticket holders are allowed access to the field box seats on Level 2.

      How will St. Louis remember the era when the club allowed fans to carry guns and weapons into Busch Stadium?
