  • Firewalls? Do I need to tear down my building?

I work at a tech center for a PC based credit card processing software.

One of our products offered is akin to an online database of your checking/savings account, only this one affords a merchant the opprotunity to see what credit cards they've processed over the last nine months. It comes with multiple recording and reports options.

Anyway, we had a caller who stated that he could not access some of the reports. (those reports are on popup screens). We suggested tha he leave his anti-virus in effect, but remove a layer, or two of his firewall protection.

About 30 minutes later his boss calls back rather hot and bothered. He says that he "see no logical reason why he must tear down two walls of his building, just to get that on-line report to appear".

I kid you not, we started rolling the aisles.

I had one about three weeks ago, where I was helping him to install the program.

I told him to click on start and go to run. I then told him to type in D:Setup and continue. He stops me, and asks "how do you spell colon". I was stunned for about five to ten seconds. All I could say was "huf and what", before I realized what he was asking.

Man, some people really shouldn't be allowed to use computers.

I have a lot of respect for tech support guys; I don't know how they manage to keep their cool.
