  • The NC, KU, Illini, SIU coaching carosel

    Early winners

    KU
    Illini
    SIU

    Early loser
    NC

Who would have thought? Certainly talent wise SIU was the least - but still managed to make the tourney and be competitive. Illinis did better than any other Big Ten school and KU is still playing. Not to say that NC season was bust - but in comparison to what the others did it has to be least accomplished. What does everybody else think.

I said at the time that Williams was doing Kansas a favor. At this point in their respective careers, Self is better.

Being a Salukis fan, I'm going to be very interested in seeing how Matt Painter handles the recruitment and development of his own players.

It was still an upgrade for UNC.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

I think UNC is a winner - look at their record last year and this year. Big difference and these kids are not Roy's kids.

Wait till he recruits his people in. The current players are nothing special save for one.

But so far the biggest winners has to be Illinois and Kansas.

At least all of them are happy with their coaches unlike Mizzou.

Is that a comb over or a toup?

Stallings is the leader in the clubhouse for the Purdue job. He's fairly young, a Purdue grad and former assistant, and has taken Vandy to the sweet 16 and Illinois St. into the 2nd round twice. Plus his top two assistants are a guy with strong Chicago connections- Tom Richardson - and an Indiana guy - Dan Muller.

                    probably both - a comb-over toupee.

You are wrong to say that UNC is an early loser.

Some say they dont make the tourney without Roy.

This is best measured long term, after 3-4 years.

Right now, these guys are coaching with other coaches players.

Wait until they can recruit their own talent and then coach them.

                        Unc will come out ahead.

I think that everybody has pretty much nailed it on the head, but let me reiterate from an insider's perspective:

People around here are EXCITED about basketball again. That's something that hasn't really existed since Dean was around. And everyone is right: let Roy recruit his own players. Next year, the first crop of his, is supposed to be badass, highlighted by Marvin Williams Jr.

This team has no depth, but Roy maximized the talent that he was given. He will turn this team into a force. Just wait. He was quoted saying that this was the most difficult year of his life. That's because it's really tough to be forced into relationships with players with whom you've had no prior contact.

Now I'm not saying that everyone wasn't hoping for a more successful season. But that's the players, and not Roy. We are MUCH better off having him here than not. And I know you said short-term, but we've even had some success there. Guess who gave UConn one of their losses this season.....
