Palestinians: U.S. Veto Gives Israel License to Kill

GAZA (Reuters) - Palestinians accused the United States on Friday of granting Israel a license to kill by vetoing U.N. condemnation of its assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

Israeli forces, taking action after the Islamic militant group said it would launch "earthquake-like" attacks to avenge Yassin's death, killed two Hamas frogmen who came ashore overnight near a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip (news - web sites).

Palestinians denounced the U.S. veto and thousands demonstrated in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to protest Yassin's killing. In Tehran, about 5,000 people marched in protest as well, chanting "Death to Israel, death to America."

Rather than just abstain, not vote on it at all and say it's your vote say what you will we have no opinion, WE VETO the resolution.
And then WONDER why people get mad at us.

Israel can do no wrong, and we make sure thats the case by telling anyone who thinks they do to shut up.

The U.S. has never had an adminstration (of either party) who've had the balls to stand up to Israel when they're dead wrong.

As a result, we, our kids and theirs will have this middle-east wacko nonsense to deal with for the rest of our lives.

Where's the UN comdenation of Hamas in the past? The U.S. was right to veto it. It was one-sided.

The U.S. did indicate that it didn't approve of the killing. But why go as far as to condemn? It's the rest of the world being politically correct by not wanting to piss off those terrorists.

You can make a good case that it wasn't a good strategic move to take out Yassin, but you can't possibly think it wasn't justified.

Sharon's track record would make any terrorist proud. He's the real deal.

I agree with DaLode, this is Arab street's central issue with the US. Nothing short of changing the perception that we are one with Isreal will do a damn thing to reduce anmosity toward us/terrorism against us.

Thats part of it I don't get, one sided?
I have no problem with them coming back and condemning Hamas also, but to veto this thing ONLY pisses people off.

              And...

Because they use helicopters to kill an old quadriplegic in a wheelchair on a open public street with other people around, at a time they need to be working at peace not war.

Mabye that was the only time they could be sure to get him.

Besides, since when does being in a wheel chair justify being a terrorist/murderer?

You're redirecting. You're the one that brought up the wheel chair.

Both sides have done some things that are wrong, but based on what I've seen over the years, the Palestinian terrorists have been more wrong.

Hamas doesn't think Israel even has a right to exist. How can you have peace with people like that? You can't. So, I have no problem with taking them out.

Why is Bush's Roadmap To Peace not being worked anymore? Seems like it just died and went away.

                      That's what I wonder.

There are 140,000 American troops in Iraq. Seriously pissing off Hamas-- and transferring part of their hatred to America-- certainly won't make our troops any safer, and indeed may serve toward increasing their danger significantly!

                        Not good, IMO.

We want to kill/capture Osama Bin Laden ...what's the difference?

The real problem over there is land.

Israrel needs to give it back and go back to the 1967 borders.
