I always like Sammy more than Dave. The lesser songs of the Sammy era were better than the lesser songs of the Dave era.Comment

As much as I don't like Roth, he was made for Van Halen and the band was not as strong without him.LONG LIVE THE NOTE!

I will go w/early David Lee Roth.
Hagar had consistently good songs but none as good as Roth's best. Roth leaving the group was good though, he was stagnant and his writing became a farce.Comment

The Hagar era had more of a bluesy soul thing going. I loved OU812 until my mom threw it away. She was a churchgoer.If you believe in something sacrifice a hobo to it or don't bother.Comment

Give me Sammy. Lyrics seemed to have a hell of a lot more meaning than the ones in the Roth era. Roth era more bubble gum, except for the Kink's songs they copied..

David Lee Roth Says Van Halen Sweating About His Tour With Hagar

(4/17/02, 6 p.m. ET) -- Never one to shy away from anything, David Lee Roth had some rather pointed comments at Tuesday's (April 16) press conference announcing his tour with Sammy Hagar.
The former Van Halen frontmen were asked what they thought the reaction to their joining forces might be from Edward and Alex Van Halen, and Roth said, "I'm not sure what the brothers think, and I'm not sure I even really care. I think that probably the two biggest words up there on Howdy Doody Mountain now are, 'Uh-oh!'"
Hagar just laughed and said, "You gotta love Dave, right? You gotta love him."
On another note, Gary Cherone's name was also brought up, and it was asked whether or not there was any room on the tour for the third Van Halen lead singer. For reasons all his own and in his own inimitable way, Roth gave this response as to why Cherone would not be part of the bill. "He's doing The Vagina Monologues," Roth quipped.
Gotta love Dave.
