Last evening I had a little spare time and decided to view VH1's airing of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies. Not a bad induction class.
Well, naturally, it got me to thinking...which led to a debate with some knowledgeable music afficionados/friends, on a cross-section of musical genres.
We all pretty much concluded that political stance, religious orientation, specific decade an artist's music originated, and media popularity (etc.), should not have too much an impact in the selection process (although it obviously does.) The music and influence it had on a populace and peers should be the barometer.
Unfortunately, too many are either given too much or too little credit for their musical contributions and inspiration. A quick glance at the inductees in the HOF since its inception in 1986 lends credence to this personal speculation.
So, who do you think are the most over-hyped or under-appreciated musical performers in the history of popular music?
Let's hear from you....
