France doesn't do what we tell them to. Now, once again, they are engaging in blatant self-interest. Next thing you know, they'll be issuing permission slips. I'm beginning to think they are un-American!

          Moe,

In case you haven't noticed, phantom and I are a couple of guys who expect France to operate in their own interests.

It's guys like you that yearn to suck up to them.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

I don't yearn to suck up to France.

I merely wish GWB had used half the energy his father did to build a coalition...and I think his failure to do show exposed the inherent weakness of his case for pre-emptive invasion of Iraq...and that in the end, France and Germany were correct to be skeptical

...but I digress, as always, you, Great One, are correct...

you can't support buddying up to china in every respect economically, then resent when someone else cozys to them militarily.  Either they are the enemy, or most favored nation.  I think they could be a valuable market for american goods, if they embraced certain reforms.  That said, unless we focus on renewable energy, they will be trading punches with us in WWIII. [/b]
I think there's a difference between cozying up militarily and economically. I don't agree with your premise that one makes the other OK -- especially when it's essentially a hostile act against Taiwan.

                  No.

Bush Sr. had a little over four months, from the end of August 1990 to the opening of hostilities in January, to build his coalition, and did a good job of it.

Bush Jr. had six months, from the point he started aggressively pimping his war in September 2002 to the opening of hostilities in March, and failed utterly.

Oh, and for those who don't know, France is our oldest ally, and the only major European power we have never fought a war with.
