  • The Fall Of The Caucasions

Today's Post included an ariticle (the type of which we all see annually) wafting on about the future change in the historically majority white population of this country.

At least, as I always read it, THAT'S the emphasis of the subject article when they occur............always filled with proforma statistics that reveal the demise of the white majority.

I'm, I think, a prototype 'white American guy'. Blue eyes, Irish/German background....light brown (where did the blonde go?) hair and the rest of the epotome of a 'white American.'.

Ironically, this type of statistic (the onset of a tanning change to the color of this country) doesn't seem to bother me as much as it does my African-American friends/collegues who find this whole Hispanic Invasion pretty sinister.

At the risk of offending everyone, it's somewhat of mystery to me. What is the concern? So, we'll have more landscapers and Mexican restaurants? No, really, what's the deal?

The Asians are the ones whom I've seen that have assimilated the most comparatively since my ancestors came over here.

Anyone who says that the people of color, generally, don't have a concern and strong opinon about all of these recent immigrants, are just naive.

Finally, some 35+ years ago a professor of mine said to my class, "The next new significant political topic will be something called 'the environment'."

This signficant change in African-American population of the U.S. (from second to beyond that) I think will become an issue of substance shortly.

In the words of Chicago.........'Where do we go from here?"

I tell you the problem, it's all the British people moving over here secretly.

Seriously though, since I've moved here I am amazed at this countries obsession with race. It always seems to come down to it from every angle, even if you think Shania is hotter than Beyonce.

I posted the racist thing on that Shania thread

      I was completely joking

But, yeah, race tends to be an issue here. A shame really.

Out of curiousity, to you, who do does it appear does the most talking about race?
Asked what he would do differently in Iraq, Kerry said, "Right now, what I would do differently is, I mean, look, I'm not the president, and I didn't create this mess so I don't want to acknowledge a mistake that I haven't made."

          WEG,

I believe race is a subject in the US b/c it's become enshrined in politics.

Elections can be won/lost by shouting "racist".

I doubt that's the case in Britain.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

            WEG,

I've heard that the UK, London in particular, gets pretty racist when dealing with Asians and Middle Easterners. Any truth in that?

Absolutely JD, it is ingrained into people here.

Although the British Nationalist Party has won local coucil seats in a place called Burnley based on race problems, so Britain is certainly not ammune from the issue either.

I have heard that as well.

Actually from what has happened, it is usually in the North of the country that race seems to be more of an issue. As I said before Burnley is probably the worst place for it.

                    Lode,

                    On to your original question.

Immigration doesn't bother me a bit, as long as the immigrants are here to work and are here to become "Americans".

Plenty of penny ante politicos leverage immigrants as a brickbat against the majority culture they despise.
