I am on my way out the door to go make my picks on a NCAA tourney that my friends and I have. I think it is the best way to "wager" yet.
You start with 8 guys. Everybody throws in the required wager, we usually do $25. Then you put numbers in a hat 1 through 8. Everybody picks a number and that is your picking position. Number 1 picks whatever team he wants on down to number 8. Then number 8 picks 2 and the picks reverse. 8,7,6,5 etc. You keep reversing until all 64 teams have been picked. Then you just keep track of all of your teams wins throughout the tourney. Whoever gets the most points wins $125 and whoever finishes second wins $75. If you have to have a tiebreaker whoevers team goes the farthest wins. Simple but SO entertaining because every game means something.
What makes it interesting is you don't have to have the best team but it helps. Usually the middle guys have the most luck. picks 3-6 or 7. We make a checkerboard type paper with everyones name across the top and then add their teams as they pick so you know everyone elses picks. Keep track at the bottom of the page and you will be riveted to every game. There have been times when driving when I will right down the names of winners so I can keep track of total points when I get home.
I know this is kind of late to get going but I've been on jury duty Monday and Tuesday and haven't been here much. Any questions let me know. It's a great bracket contest. We've been koing it this way for 25 years.
