  • Bush: Dept. Homeland Security = photo-ops

Another good use of taxpayer dollars from the Bush team. Maybe he should fly onto another aircraft carrier. Personally, I'd rather have the Homeland Security employees keeping their eyes open for TERRORISTS, but I guess I have different priorities than Bush.

As the Bush team sorts out its internal mechanics, it will press the advantage of incumbency. Administration sources tell TIME that employees at the Department of Homeland Security have been asked to keep their eyes open for opportunities to pose the President in settings that might highlight the Administration's efforts to make the nation safer. The goal, they are being told, is to provide Bush with one homeland-security photo-op a month.

Given that the political quiz put you in the same camp with Pacey, I'm not sure I'm all that worried about your concerns.
And, frankly, it has never occured to me that "winning" a debate is important, or that I should be hurt when someone like Airshark or kah, among others (for whom winning a pseudo debate or declaring intellectual superiority over invisible others is obviously very important) ridicule me.

      Good one.

I think the Department of Homeland Security employees should be looking for terrorists.

You and Bush think they should be looking for photo-ops.

If they're hell bent on using images from 9-11, why don't they break out the one of Bush on top of the WTC rubble with the megaphone?

He might as well have been yelling "Wait til you folks see how I'm gonna use this to get re-elected" through that thing.

My opinion of Bush has almost made it the full 180 degrees since he was inaugurated.

The way Bush uses and talks about 911 for political purposes would make one almost think that he is glad it happened on his watch.

I always thought that if you were president, and a massive attack such as that happened, that it was a bad thing that doesnt reflect well on that president.

Especially since he was privvy to intelligence before-hand that hinted something like 911 may happen.
“I’ve always stated, ‘I’m a Missouri Tiger,’” Anderson said March 13 after Arkansas fired John Pelphrey, adding, “I’m excited about what’s taking place here.”

Asked then if he would talk to his players about the situation, he said, “They know me, and that’s where the trust comes in.

            Is Kerry glad Vietnam happened?
Asked what he would do differently in Iraq, Kerry said, "Right now, what I would do differently is, I mean, look, I'm not the president, and I didn't create this mess so I don't want to acknowledge a mistake that I haven't made."

Also, the Bush team felt that the risks it took in using images of 9/11 in the first round of ads, paid off. Bush campaign advisers say surveys of focus groups done after the ads aired registered approval among swing voters, and internal polls showed Bush's favorable rating increased 4 to 5 percentage points in states where the spots ran. The ads also spurred $120,000 in online donations—a modest amount but it included the biggest one-day haul yet for the Republicans over the Internet—quickened the pace of volunteer sign-ups, and may have looked more timely in the wake of the terrorist attack in Madrid last week.
