The difference here is that Bertuzzi had intent on injuring a player. It doesn't matter if it turned out worse than he'd planned.....he was dead set on hurting him.

Even the McSorley incident wasn't as bad because McSorley was trying to pick a fight and got insanely reckless.

The only incident in recent memory that compares to this was the Domi elbow to Neidermeyer's head as they were skating by each other. That was a deliberate attempt to injure.

This is crap that you all are spewing. Bert injured Jackman and beat the Blues last year and now you are pissed and being outrageous. This suspension is about right. Anyone who has played a physical sport, especially hockey, knows shit happens. A guy knocks out your best player, best friend and captain, so you as a bg strong guy go get him. But, like a coward, he walks a way so you hit him. Bad move, but it happens. If that was it, this would be two days and nothing more. Then he fell on him, that was worse, but probably not intended, and only was that bad because Bert is so damn big.

He should be punished, but his career shouldn't be over. The other guy's likely isn't either, but if it is, well I'm sorry, but Marian Hossa didn't sit it out until Bryan Berrard made a miraculous return. Hate me and call me names for this, but I call it like I see it.

He knocked him out from behind, drove him into the ice, and still was shoving him when teammates got to him.
"falling" on him was NO accident.

As for the Jackman thing, Quinville was on the radio yesterday or the day before and said what happened there was nothing bad, that the guy was just playing the game you want him to play it unfortunately someone was hurt but it wasn't illegal at all.

This was a mugging, he broke his neck, hell it could have been manslaughter.
But hey it wasn't intended right?

        Cubs4Ever,
Your city's hockey team is a joke and this is no different. Shit does happen. Shit is when Jackman got hurt by Bertuzzi-- it was clearly a legal hit and I had no problem with it. Berard got hurt because of wanton stick use by Hossa- it wasn't intentional. The fact that 6 full periods had elapsed since Moore took out NAslund and Moore already wasin a fight that game makes it even more inexcusable.

Bertuzzi out weights Moore by 60 pounds, yet he still stalks him for 10 seconds, suckerpunches him in the temple, and drives his head into the ice. Clearly the worst thing I have ever seen in a hockey game. I think he should be suspended for this year and half of next or something. Anything else is too lenient.
My cities hockey team? I am from StL, so, the Blues?

Anyway, I'm not saying this was okay, but he is doing his time, and people need to get over it.
Sucks for Moore, and I feel for him and his family, but no one said hockey was safe, especially if he was taking a bad-ass role.

Is anyone here an NHL fighter?

There is a code of NHL fighters. These guys fight for the fans, or to pick up their teams. And then they have a drink together after the game. Very few fights are to actually injure.

Exactly, it is allowed, so physical "horrors" will happen.

CSD-I'm not comparing Hossa to Bertuzzi, just using it to point out the fact that the offender never has to serve as long as the victim. Take Rick Tochett, he never would have played a game if he had to sit out for all the people he kneed.

                  its a populist thing now.

                  Its bullshit.

We incite this crap in every sport, as fans, as owners, as teamates.

Then when something bad happens we all act like we thought it was a church league.
