Bertuzzi Suspended for Remainder of Season
5 minutes ago
By JOHN WAWROW, AP Sports Writer
TORONTO - Todd Bertuzzi of the Vancouver Canucks (news) was suspended for the rest of the regular season and the playoffs by the NHL on Thursday for attacking Colorado's Steve Moore.
In addition, Bertuzzi's eligibility for next season will be determined by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman before the start of training camp.
The Canucks were also fined $250,000.
Bertuzzi slugged Moore in the side of the head late in Monday night's 9-2 victory by the Avalanche. He hit Moore from behind and drove his head into the ice. Moore landed face-first — with the 245-pound Bertuzzi on top of him — and lay in a pool of blood for several minutes before he was removed on a stretcher.
Moore is out for the season with a broken neck. He also sustained a concussion and deep cuts on his face, and remained hospitalized in Vancouver.
NHL vice presidents Bill Daly and Colin Campbell are scheduled to comment on the decision later Thursday.

Those asshats in the NHL front offices are pussies for not slamming the door in Bertuzzi's face.
"In addition, Bertuzzi's eligibility for next season will be determined by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman before the start of training camp."
Cowards!
I can't believe McSorley got a year for his antics and Bertuzzi isn't getting the same. Brashear missed what, 20 games due to a concussion? Moore may never play hockey again.

Well, I'm glad that him playing next season will be up in the air going into it... but everyone knows that he'll be back on the ice - he's a guy who moved jerseys in the past and has awesome skills... the NHL unfortunately is a nickel and dime beer league, so they'll let him play again.

Kaiser - how's the fishing around here? Let's give it a shot...
I can't believe you guys - Moore obviously took a dive on this one. Bertuzzi hit him, but come on - he still had his glove on when he did it! Moore fell forward to try to draw a bigger penalty, and Bertuzzi couldn't avoid falling on top of him. Any of you guys who have ever participated in even a public skate session know that when someone falls right in front of you, it's nearly impossible to stop. You'll land on top of them 99% of the time.
Then, another Avs player jumped on Bertuzzi's back while he was on top of Moore! That could have done some of the damage to Moore's neck, too.
Unfortunate incident, but I think you guys are being kid of rough on Bertuzzi. He's just a hockey player, after all...

What is going to change between now and next season? I don't understand putting off the decision for next season until then. Better to suspend him now why the thought of Moore laying on the ice with a broken neck than next year when a lot of people will have forgotten how severe this attack was.
