Maybe we could lose him and Morris, go and get a true #1.
Then combine that with Carpenter, Marquis, Haren and Ankiel/Narveson/Calero/Ryan/SomeOtherYoungGuy.

Winston,
The question was whether Woody had on option for next year. He does.
I'm making no claim to the Cardinals picking that option up. But, nothing is preventing the Cardinals and Williams renegotiating a 2 year deal at, say, $4 million per year. The Cardinals more than likely won't exercise the option, whether Williams pitches well or not. I wouldn't, however, mark him off as a starter for the Cards in 2005.
Iowa. I wan't actually talking to you nor denigrating Woody pitching for the Cards. =]
I was surprised he had an option, and I just never imagined the Cards would pick it up.
We're already paying him until 2025 or something =]
I thought I had heard many times that when he signed this latest 2 year deal, he was going to retire.

I've never heard about the retirement talk, but if that's the case, then fine by me.
We've got some pitchers in the minors who are ready now to be in the rotation. Then again, if he decides to stick around another year or two, at a cheap enough price, then I wouldn't mind him in the rotation either.

If the Cardinals are out of the race at the trade deadline, I would like to see Woody or Morris or both moved for prospects and give some of these young guys a chance. Won't happen, but I can dream can't I?
I'm not too sure Morris is re-signing next year.
