Norman Chad, syndicated columnist: “Sports radio, reflecting our sinking culture, spends entire days advising managers and coaches, berating managers and coaches, firing managers and coaches and searching the countryside for better middle relievers. If they just redirected their energy toward, say, crosswalk-signal maintenance, America would be 2 percent more livable.”
"The best argument against democracy," someone (Churchill?) said, "is a five minute conversation with the average voter."Tags: None

Damn, you would think a stud like Kerry would have a lead on a fuck up like Bush.
Especially coming off of an easy primary, and jobs being so bad, and the economy tanking, and Iraq cluster fuck. I mean what is it that Bush is doing.Un-Official Sponsor of Randy Choate and Kevin Siegrist

We'll see in November.
Unfortunately many people (including some on this board) blame and credit Presidents for things they largely can't control.
Kerry will be vague enough to get lots of votes to go along with the anti-Bush votes. So, it will be a close election. Bush needs more job creation. But that said, the unemployment level isn't historically high."Need some wood?" -- George W. Bush, October 8, 2004

Worst economic record since the Great Depression. That's Dubya's resume.
Regarding polls, here is a link that includes better sources than Fox News:
http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm
The upshot:
Most polls show a statistical tie, or very close. AP has Bush 46, Kerry 45. NPR has Bush 47, Kerry 45. Pew has Kerry 48, Bush 44. CBS News has Kerry 47, Bush 46. These polls go back to late February.
Three things to think about: One, the $200M Bush campaign juggernaut is just barely getting underway. However, like I said on the thread about Bush's commercials, if stuff like questioning Kerry's medals and 9/11 coffins are going to be key to their strategy, it's open to question how effective that $200M is going to be.
Two: the gay vote. One millon homosexuals, or 25% of the total gay vote, voted for Bush in 2000. They're pissed off about the Hate Amendment. Will the gay community be better motivated to turn out and vote Democratic? Dunno. Will an increased output in the Christian right make up for the better part of one million gays abandoning Bush? Dunno.
The other is Ralph Nader. I suspect very much that the Nader effect is being magnified right now. Nader is running at 6% in the AP poll. First, no way in hell is he going to get 6%. I'd be shocked if he does better than half of the 2.7% he got last time. Second, he's going to have to get on ballots, and he won't have the Green Party to help him. And it's illegal (sorry, GOPers) for the Republican Party to directly fund ballot access for Nader.
So we'll see how Nader does. The Democratic position is greatly improved if you assume, say, no more than 1.5% for Nader.
My guess as of right now is that Bush is still a slight favorite. But we have eight months to go, and no telling what will happen in the meantime.
