  • Blues @ Red Wings

St. Louis (29-22-7-1) at Detroit (34-16-8-2)

Game Info: 7:30 pm EST Fri Feb 20, 2004
     TV: FSMW, FSDet

The milestones keep piling up for Brett Hull this season.

Detroit's star winger hopes to help his team gain sole possession of first place in the Western Conference as the Red Wings host the St. Louis Blues.

Hull scored on a one-timer in the second period of Detroit's 5-2 win on Wednesday, matching Dave Andreychuk's NHL record with his 263rd power-play goal. Andreychuk has scored three power-play goals this season for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

``I was sitting beside him when he came off, and I said, `Did you realize that?' and he just kind of gave me the Brett Hull smile,'' said Kris Draper, who added two goals. ``It was in typical fashion, too, with his one-timer.''

Hull, who did not speak to reporters after the game, scored his 732nd goal on Dec. 8, passing Marcel Dionne for third on the NHL all-time list. The 39-year-old Hull, who now has 737 goals, trails only Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).

``It was a classic Brett Hull goal,'' Detroit coach Dave Lewis said of Hull's one-timer.

Hull has scored 21 goals this season, including eight with the man advantage, for Detroit, which is tied with Colorado atop the conference standings with 78 points. The Avalanche play in Dallas on Friday.

The Red Wings, who lead second-place St. Louis by 12 points in the Central Division, have gone 6-1-2 over their last nine games.

The Blues are coming off Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Lightning, giving them their first three-game winning streak since they won six in a row from Dec. 6-18.

Doug Weight scored the game-winner at 1:06 of overtime and Dallas Drake had three assists for St. Louis, which has scored four goals in consecutive games after not scoring that many in a game since Jan. 15.

Center Pavol Demitra returned to the lineup after missing nine games with a hip injury.

Wouldn't it be nice to have those 21 goals this year for the beloved Note? Hullie's 8 on the power play would be nice too.. No trade schmoe trade..
