  • Is steroids on an equal with gambling

We've all heard about the damage that guys like Pete Rose can cause the game with his betting on baseball. I understand baseball's concern regarding the danger to the game. But, shouldn't the guys who injected steroids into their system also be looked at as causing great harm to the games integrity?

IMO, these men should have their records deleted. And, they should be suspended, or possibly banned from the game.

    Worse.

      I agree.

P.S. Did you see my post concerning a certain young lady in concert in July, at the ampitheater.

        No.

I'm working my way through the posts since lunch.

I doubt if the level of concern within baseball regarding steroids ever comes close to the piousness concerning gambling. A huge percentage of the worries about the effects of gambling on baseball are really worries about the integrity of gambling itself.

It's as good as cheating and all their records should be voided and they should be banned from baseball and the HoF. They being Barry Bonds of course Asshat.

Unfortunately, steroids weren't illegal under MLB rules, so I don't think there's anything that could be done retroactively.

Gambling is much worse, to which the written prohibition against it in every MLB clubhouse attests.

That said, steroids are very serious - like spitballs and/or corked bats...on steroids. And baseball is so, so stupid. Its greatest asset is tradition and yet they've knowingly allowed these guys to steal sacred records over the last 10 years.

I am not sure why you think this.

In Rose's case, he gambled on baseball and altered the integrity of the game by quite possibly determining the results of games.

In Bond's case, there is a very good chance (much better than great) that he took steroids and altered the results of a game and records. Thereby, the integrity of the game was tarnished.

Like Trig said, thanks to major league rules, steroids are not illegal. But, according to law, they are illegal, which makes this point moot.

It's too bad it took the Feds to step in and show the players union that someone has more balls than they do. God only know, the ownership group had none.

Gambling is worse, especially in baseball where steroids weren't banned until last season.

                          Moe,

Now that the FDA has targeted steroids, I think from this point forward, their use should be looked upon in the same light as gambling,

It's just not fair to the men who play the game clean, to have records and games determined by some genetically altered freak.

Don't disagree, and think it is a great shame that baseball can't seem to stop stepping on it's own member...steroids are not breaking news.
