  • Stanley Cup to make appearance at Chicago gay pride parade

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Lord Stanley's Cup will be making an appearance at the Chicago Gay Pride Parade this coming Sunday, June 27.

The Blackhawks accepted an invitation from the Chicago Gay Hockey Association.

Representing the 'Hawks at the festivities will be defenseman Brent Sopel, who told the Sun-Times that he would be 'honored to do it' and will bring his family along with the Stanley Cup to the parade.

The 33-year old defenseman from Calgary, AB is also making the appearance as a way to honor Brendan Burke, the openly gay son of Toronto Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke who was killed in an automobile accident earlier this year.
